A new explosive testimony given by the Former Security Minister of Jubaland State of Somalia Abdirashid Hassan Abdinur, known as Janan, has sent shockwaves through the nation, implicating former ally and the current Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe in the 2006 suicide bombing that targeted a convoy carrying the late Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed.
The suicide attack occurred outside the parliament building in Baidoa on Sept 18, 2006, shortly after a convoy escorting President Abdullahi Yusuf, who had just delivered a speech at the parliament left the compound.
Among those killed in that attack which has long been a scar on the nation’s history was the president’s brother and members of his security detail.
Abdirashid Janan, a former close ally of President Madobe, made the startling testimony during a press conference in Nairobi, detailing the alleged involvement of his former boss, then a senior leader of the Al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab group in a role he allegedly playing in the devastating bombing.
His shocking revelations have ignited a new firestorm and renewed sense of urgency in the pursuit of justice by the relatives and families of the bombing victims.
The late President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, the intended target of the attack survived the bombing which left a trail of destruction and bloody scenes.

According to Janan’s account, Mr Madobe was directly involved in developing all stages of the plot, from planning, coordinating and execution of the suicide bombing which dealt a significant setback for the then government.
The terrorist attack which compounded the challenges facing Mr. Ahmed’s fragile government come just a few days after Islamist fighters had recently seized control of Mogadishu in 2006 after ousting the warlords, effectively challenging it’s authority.
However, with the military support of Ethiopia, the government has managed to overthrow the Islamists in a major military offensive that gradually expanded its control into Mogadishu, the Somali government’s permanent base.
President Madobe is yet to respond to his former close ally’s allegations. However, in a recent speech delivered during a recent meeting in Mogadishu, he has jokingly bragged that he was the founder of al-Shabab, cracking jokes with Mukhtar Robow, the former Al-Shabab’s Deputy Leader and a current Federal Government Minister who was also present at the event.
Emphasizing his confession’s veracity, Madobe also boldly stated that Ibrahim Afghani, a senior former al-Shabab, financially supported his family during his detention in Ethiopia, calling out Robow as his witness.
