    IGAD’s Executive Secretary to Be Recognized for Role in Ethiopia’s Peace Deal

    NAIROBI – The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, is set to be recognized for his significant contribution to the Ethiopia peace deal and its successful implementation.
    The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Pretoria, South Africa, in November 2023.
    Dr. Gebeyehu played a pivotal role in facilitating the peace negotiations between the Ethiopian government and various rebel groups.
    Since the signing of the peace agreement, Mr. Gebeyehu has continued to work tirelessly to ensure its successful implementation.
    His efforts have included regular meetings with key stakeholders and the establishment of mechanisms to monitor the progress of the peace process.
    Regional diplomats told Horn Examiner that the upcoming award ceremony is a testament to Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu’s dedication and commitment to peace and security in the region.
    The recognition of his contribution to the Ethiopia peace deal is a reminder of the importance of diplomacy, dialogue, and cooperation in resolving conflicts and promoting peace.
    Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu expressed his gratitude for the honour and emphasized the need for continued efforts to sustain the peace in Ethiopia and the region. He also thanked IGAD member states and partners for their support and cooperation in the peace process.
    The award ceremony is expected to bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and international partners, to celebrate Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu’s achievements and to renew their commitment to peace and stability in the region.
