Mogadishu– Somalia’s Attorney General Office has issued an arrest warrant for Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, known as Suldan, the Director General of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, in a corruption case described as a witch-hunt. Suldan, a member of the Banadiri community, is believed to have been targeted based on his affiliation with a minority group.
The current administration is grappling with significant challenges amid widespread allegations of corruption. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that numerous corrupt government officials enjoy immunity from prosecution and face no accountability for their actions.
Of particular concern is the alleged involvement of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s immediate family in corruption scandals and questionable transactions. Despite these accusations, they have managed to avoid legal consequences, thereby fostering an atmosphere of impunity within the government.
The arrest of the Director General occurred against the backdrop of an escalating dispute between him and Minister Bihi Iman Egeh. This dispute arose when the minister appointed a new Administrative and Finance Director two months ago.
The newly appointed individual, who happens to have a familial connection, has been assuming the role of the de facto Director General, effectively assuming the responsibilities of the Ministry.
